Interesting programme last night with Andrew Neil on the effects of Indy on the rest of the UK. Impact looks significant and largely detrimental. I can't see the UK electorate standing for any kind of reasonable negotiating position. Scotland will not come out of it well. Some say the UK needs to show the world how well it treats the situation. I don't think the world cares, and I don't think the UK electorate cares what the world thinks either. Shocked

Luvin the spellcheck on here BTW. Razz

On the topic of a post yes Scotland, I think the defence position is ludicrous. SNP think they are entitled to 4 Typhoons amongst a bunch of other stuff, what the hell are they going to do with 4 Typhoons? They are truly horrifically expensive to run and maintain and their role is very high altitude interceptor, or in an offensive role they were designed to decimate the Argentine navy. (from 60.000 feet).

I think the UK have fairly strick rules about which foreign potential enemies they supply arms to. In a future conflict over oil and windmill resources, or to rescue incomers  Razz they would do well to keep hold of the software override keys.  Shocked

We need out of Europe, and we need all those on unemployment benefit to be doing the work that we have to let immigrants do like picking vegetables and fruit. If they did that during the summer and clearing the snow and digging drainage ditches for the rain in the winter then we would be better off and they would soon find a proper job and stop whining.

The org is like a wet hippy weekend in rhyl

Quite amused to read on e org that some islanders starting a campaign to have a referendum where considered just trouble makers by some secessionist. Funny how when they want independence from rUK it's all a worthy cause but when someone in the islands wants independence wants it they are a trouble maker.

Then we have Alex Salmond in Abroath getting all historical over Scotland signing it's independence back in 1300s only prob as I see it is, that means up till then Scotland wasn't an independent country and as it started the union in 1700s that means in reality for the totality of history Scotland has only been independent for 400yrs give or take a couple of decades.

Define 'Scotland'.  Like the rest of the British Isles these lands have been carved up in so many ways and changed hands so many times that it's like trying to take a definitive DNA semen sample after a line-up.

There's spunk from Picts, Welsh, Romans, Norse, Britons, Saxon and Angles been stirred around in various orifices of Scotland for 2 millennia.

So I fail to see how anyone can get jingoistic about this place.  It is, however, this diversity that gives Scotland (and England and Wales) the great character that it has.

Compare it with Ireland which, other than a bit of Viking raiding, never got invaded or mucked about with until a couple of hundred years ago - and it's inbred, boring, and bankrupt.

Bad day for wee Jimmy Krankie and Piratelassie;

https://yougov.co.uk/news/2016/07...st-support-scottish-independence/

The majority of Scots, according to a You Gov poll still favour staying in the UK after the Brexit vote.
