Cloud nine Academy dance a reel thrashing round sorry Strathspey
Sam Mackay scored a hat-trick in the 9-2 win at Strathspey Thistle.

Strathspey Thistle 2 Wick Academy 9

Goals - Strathspey: Ross (Cool Peters (65) Wick: Geruzel (37, 52)  Mackay (9, 24, 90) R Allan (65) Pickles (53, 83) Anderson (8Cool.

WICK Academy are in seventh heaven as they recorded their seventh consecutive league win with a divine attacking performance that made it a hellish afternoon for Strathspey Thistle.

The win puts Wick Academy into third place in the SHFL, and if Brora Rangers lose at home to Nairn County and Formartine fail to win against Deveronvale next weekend, a win at home to Rothes next Saturday will see the Scorries soar to the top of the table.

There is something about Seafield Park which Academy seem to enjoy as last season they also scored nine and kept a clean sheet in the process.

But the home side did take the lead after just eight minutes when John Ross scored forcing Sean McCarthy to pick the ball out of his net.

The lead lasted a matter of seconds as Sam Mackay equalised and then double the Scorries advantage midway through the first half.

Lukasz Geruzel has found his way to the back of the net again after a disappointing campaign last season, finding the net either side of half time to put Academy 4-1 in front.

Orcadian James Pickles, who has thrilled fans with a string of sensational performances at Harmsworth Park made it five, immediately after the Pole's second.

But Josh Peters did reduce the deficit to three on the hour mark as Strathspey desperately attempted to make a game of it.

Ross Allan restored the four goal advantage in the 65th minute which killed any hopes of a Jags comeback, as it was now a case of how many for Academy.

Pickles scored Wick's seventh, seven minutes of time with a spectacular 40 yard strike Kyle Robertson could only watch in anguish pass him by into the net.

Steven Anderson, 2014 Caithness County League player of the year with Lybster, grabbed his first ever senior goal two minutes from time with Sam Mackay making it 9-2 in injury time.

The Jags afternoon of misery was complete when Jack Malley was sent off in the dying seconds.

Wick had no time left to make it double figures, but manager Gordon Connelly will not have cared as he continues his impressive league record during his first full season in charge.
