My name is.....?

Reading about women and their names. They're going on about how they lose their identity if they get married and take their husband's name . Going on about 'my name is my identity', sorry but...what crap!
I couldn't give a hoot what I'm called, first name or second name. What does it matter? We are each who we are, no matter what the name.
What do you think of it?
ducati

Very wise Gertrude.
mrsbradey

I dont mind Bradey. I like Gertrude also!!

I don't like my name but the Susie bit is OK. To be honest I've been called ALL sorts over the years! I answer to many names even now, usually dreadful names I call myself during forgetful and clumsy episodes. Surnames? Couldn't give a monkey's...I have had plenty different ones with being shipped off to various members of the family when I was a nipper. They seemed to want to give me their surname rather than explain who I was. The best part about that was that I never once had a medical or dental check up at school as I simply didn't exist in any official way! This state of affairs jumped up and bit my bum a few times when I left school and got a job, in fact it was a nightmare and is still partly unresolved now.

Dear me Susie; you have had a time of it for sure! Thankfully you have landed hear caithnessnotorg "The land of milk and honey" (a good thing if you like milk and honey - not so good if you don't)!!! Laughing

Thats an interesting subject, Susie.

I do kinda feel taking on another name does loose your identity and in doing that you are becoming a possession.  Its silly really as a name shouldnt make any difference.

Shocked

I understand the idea but not really? Surely you aren't defined by a name. For example, if I met you and your real name was Basil or Sybil, you would still be Jax wouldn't you. When I got married I was glad of a new name actually even though its a crappy one that everyone gets wrong, I'm still daft me and still getting dafter every day. Tell you what I detest, that bloody Ms thing. I absolutely can't abide it. You are either one or t'other.
Jax

The Ms thing is quite annoying even though I find myself doing it!

At what age does a woman automatically become a Mrs? I am not married (shame on me) but of late I am automatically classed as a Mrs and this assumption is from people who do not know me. Why is this happening do I not have the look or sound of an old spinster or a gender bender?

Idea

I won't push my luck by wwrriittiinngg everything twice like some folk are doing today! Sitting on the keyboard is a bad habit.
You sound like a Miss to me. And don't be ashamed of living ower t'brush, I'm sure you'll be able to afford a ring some day!
We could refer to you as a spinster because in the olden days it meant a bonny young thing who didn't have a family or a haggard old cow that was post menopausal and shagged out! Take your pick Miss Jax(that looks like the start of a joke to me)

Yes.
Although, in truth, I'd rather not look at mrsB. I must say I think you are a model of self-deprecation and self-discipline.....how do you cope first thing in the morning when you wake up and see THAT snoring on the pillow?
