A9 Speed Cameras

So they have been a dismal failure already....

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-tayside-central-29894822

So much for them making the road safer....

Sadly this will not be the last we hear of fatalities on the A9, I don't think the cameras will stop stupid drivers, driving stupidly!!!

The SNP were told that before they went ahead with their hare brained scheme, but wouldn't listen...  Sad

And I see their other "A9 initiative" is a total flop as well.  The raising of the speed limit for HGV's to 50.

Well, England and Wales are on the case to do that for all single carriageway roads.  So in go ahead England/Wales, 50 will be the norm, whilst in backwards Scotland its still 40, except for one stretch of road.

Duh....
mrsbradey

SNP and initiative, are not two words I would normally associate!!

brown was obviously covering his arse when he announced average speed cameras.

people aren't killed by excess average speeds.

Indeed it's the sudden stop that gets you.
Perhaps we should have sudden stop cameras, then you could get a letter in the post when you die
cait

when are then planning to have it dualled everywhere between perth and inverness?
MI16

probably when they raise enough funds from the average speed cameras.
Or shortly after hell develops a hard frost

I think there are too many lorries using the A9 to carry goods that could be more economically distributed using what is left of the rail network!
MI16

I disagree.
With business being business, if it was more economically advantageous to use rail then they would be.

i've heard sillier suggestions. that would at least create a symbiotic relationship between the road and its users.

Well I disagree right back, but will ammend my view by saying, "it 'should' be more ecconomical to use railways.

A fully loaded lorry will carry around 24 ~ 30 tonne, and do between 4 ~ 6 mpg

A loaded frieght train can carry over 400 tonnes and do 1 ~ 2 mpg

I make that a win for the train being  more ecconomical, as in fuel per tonne. So iguess it would come down to maintainence of trucks v trains and infrastucture.
cait

yes, but you also have to add loading/unloading an inconvenience costs if you use trains.

i doubt that would swing it back to trucks though.

just think of the goods that move through germany by train, it's way more than here.
